We are opening 5x PhD positions at the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria, in the groups of

  • Nadine J. Ortner at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology (Institute of Pharmacy) at the University of Innsbruck, Austria
  • Petronel Tuluc at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology (Institute of Pharmacy) at the University of Innsbruck, Austria
  • Marta Campiglio at the Institute of Physiology, Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria.
  • Frank Edenhofer (edenhofer-lab.com) and Christopher Esk (cesklab.com) at the Institute of Molecular Biology at the University of Innsbruck, Austria

The students will be integrated in the CaVX PhD program (funded by the Austria Science Fund) and/or the University of Innsbruck’s international PhD program AGE/REG program and will benefit of this collaborative PhD excellence programs, internal scientific exchanges, annual retreats, and a supportive and motivated scientific environment within the Innsbruck stem cell and calcium channel cluster.

Within the different projects, the students will study

- the impact of disease-associated Cav1.3 calcium channel variants on endocrine and neuronal cell function in a knock-in mouse model, the development of human iPSC-derived neurons and brain organoids, and the excitability of human iPSC-derived neurons.

- the roles of calcium channel interacting STAC proteins in the pathophysiological mechanisms of malignant hyperthermia, and the skeletal muscle excitation-contraction coupling and cardiac automaticity.
