Master thesis
The Molecular Sensory Physiology group, led by Prof. Alexandra Koschak at the Institute of Pharmacy, Pharmacology & Toxicology at Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck, is seeking motivated candidates for a master thesis project in ion channel research. The group operates at the intersection of retina and ion channel function, within an internationally acclaimed department renowned for its research on voltage-gated calcium channels.
Candidates should have a background in biology, biophysics, pharmacy, or related fields, a strong interest in learning patch-clamp electrophysiology, and enthusiasm for competitive scientific research. Previous experience in the methodology is not required. However, applicants should be comfortable with physics, willing to thoroughly learn the basics of patch-clamp recordings and data analysis, and be team players.
We offer an international research environment, state-of-the-art electrophysiological and molecular biological techniques, and the opportunity to learn electrophysiology from the ground up. The project will utilize well-established techniques in our lab, including cell culture, transfections, and patch-clamp electrophysiology in cultured cells.
The project duration is between 6 and 8 months, starting with an introduction to electrophysiological recordings. The project should commence between October 1, 2024, and December 1, 2024. Please send your application to alexandra.koschak(at)uibk.ac.at, including a short letter of motivation, your CV, and, if available, a reference letter. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
