Research Engineer (m/f/d) Battery Characterization
As Austria's largest research and technology organisation for applied research, we are dedicated to make substantial contributions to solving the major challenges of our time, climate change and digitisation. To achieve our goals, we rely on our specific research, development and technology competencies, which are the basis of our commitment to excellence in all areas. With our open culture of innovation and our motivated, international teams, we are working to position AIT as Austria's leading research institution at the highest international level and to make a positive contribution to the economy and society.
Our Competence Unit "Battery Technologies" is looking for new Ingenious Partners for our location in Vienna. The heart of our research area is the battery laboratory, where battery materials are developed and ultimately processed into industrial battery cells in the pilot plant. The in-situ, gas, and post-mortem characterization of pilot-scale and industrial cells for battery electric vehicles is in high demand as Europe ramps up battery production to the Gwh scale. Materials and component suppliers and cell producers will increasingly rely on accurate testing and performance data.
As part of our international multidisciplinary team of scientists, students, engineers, and technicians you will focus on the characterization of the next generation of batteries for sustainable electromobility.
- You will liaison with our industrial clients, design and develop customer projects, and provide customer quotations for materials and cell testing.
- You will apply techniques such as gas chromatography with mass spectroscopy to identify the chemical composition and volume of the gas phase produced during battery cycling.
- You will prepare electrodes and cells from new materials, perform cell testing, and analyze the data.
- You will prepare clear and consistent reports for our industrial customers.
- You will plan the timely and effective delivery of project results.
- You will support other team members and contribute to publications on fundamental materials characterization.
- Your results contribute to the success of our customer and R&D projects.
- You will strongly interface and interact with national and European customers.
- You will help establish new methods and processes within our battery materials development and characterization team.
- Your results will build your expertise and international recognition in batteries for electromobility.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- You hold a master’s degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science with a strong background in gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy
- You have experience in laboratory-scale cell assembly including slurry formulations, battery cell testing and data evaluation
- You enjoy communicating with industrial clients
- You are structured, independent, vibrant, and engaging
- Very good German and English (written and spoken at technical level)
What to expect:
The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective agreement is EUR 57.890,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience. In addition, we offer company benefits, flexible working conditions, individual training, and career opportunities.
