PhD position: Advanced synthetic biology tools for yeast strain development

That’s the project

The production of recombinant biopharmaceutical proteins is of paramount importance for both public health and a sustainable bio-based economy. Improving production platform, in this case the yeast Pichia pastoris (syn. Komagataella phaffii), is an important tool to make bioprocesses sustainable in the long term and at the same time economically competitive.

The aim of this project is to reduce the timelines in strain development for difficult-to-express but therapeutically promising protein formats. For this purpose, technologies that allow for rapid and efficient cell and genome engineering will be further advanced.

That’s important to us

You have completed a Master’s degree at a recognized University in biotechnology, biochemical engineering, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or similar study. Experience in following areas would be of advantage:

Strong background in synthetic biology, molecular biology, biotechnology

Yeast genetics and cell biology

Bioreactor cultivation

Bioinformatics tools for genomic data analysis

We expect excellent skills in spoken and written English

You should enjoy the work in an international interdisciplinary environment.

That’s what you should know

The annual gross salary is EUR 46,000.

This corresponds to a monthly net amount of EUR 2,275 (paid 14 times a year).

Start: 2nd of January 2024
