From the hand of the important Austrian composer Anton Bruckner there exists no complete list of his
works. For a long time, it was not possible to systematically record all of Bruckner`s works, since many are
not mentioned in his own enumerations. A first attempt at a complete overview of Bruckner`s oeuvre was
made by Renate Grasberger in 1974, and the main task of the project presented here was to rework
Grasberger`s rather provisional catalogue of his works. In order not to cause confusion either in the
referring research literature or in the data management in library systems or in the music industry, the
work numbers introduced and proven by Grasberger were predominantly retained. On this basis, a new
system of works was developed, which in turn represents an expansion by further important categories in
comparison to the older system. Starting from the 149 works listed in the older catalogue of works, the
new catalogue has been expanded to include more than 300 works, whereby autograph sketches, study
materials, copies and adaptations are also taken into account. A novelty of the new catalogue of works is
the consideration of polyphonic note incipits, in the case of multi-part works also for the beginning of each
section. In time for the Bruckner anniversary year 2024 (200th birthday), the new catalogue is to be
published in two volumes by the Hollitzer publishing house. The dataset is based on the preliminary
projects "bruckner-online.at" and "Digitales Werkverzeichnis Anton Bruckner" funded by the FWF and
carried out by the Department of Musicology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The new catalogue of
works will then be available in printed form in addition to the digital online edition.
