Target group
The funding program is aimed at researchers working in the field of quantum physics at universities, non-academic research institutions, and research departments in related sectors.
Funding goals
QuantERA aims to encourage and stimulate excellent research in quantum technologies by funding outstanding research ideas that have the potential to establish and develop new areas in this field.
Funding period and funding amount
The maximum funding period is 36 months.
The FWF does not generally impose limits on the amount requested, but due to the limited participation budget, it expects Austrian applicants not to request amounts exceeding those for Principal Investigator Projects (typically €300,000 to €450,000).

Information on the current call “QuantERA III Call 2025”
The FWF is participating exclusively in the “Quantum Phenomena and Resources” topic of the QuantERA III Call 2025. Only proposals for basic research projects on the subject of the call will be accepted.
Each proposal must involve a minimum of three and a maximum of six eligible partners from at least three participating partner countries. A joint proposal must be submitted by the project coordinator to the central Call Secretariat.
The researchers are funded by their respective national/regional funding organizations.
Funding organizations from over 30 countries are planning to take part in the call. The current list of participating countries can be found on the QuantERA website.

Application information
All applications must be submitted by December 5, 2025, using the Call Secretariat's online application system. Please see the QuantERA website for the link to the application system.
Application and review are carried out in a single-stage procedure.
- Submission deadline: December 5, 2025 (5:00 pm CET)
- Decision: expected in May 2026
In addition to the application to the Call Secretariat, administrative and financial data as well as the academic abstracts for the proposal must be submitted to the FWF on elane (in compliance with the FWF application guidelines for Principal Investigator Projects). please select the program category “KIN - International - Multilateral Initiatives” (deadline: December 9, 2025, 2:00 pm local time Vienna).
