Academic Integrity

Integrity and the principles of good scientific practice are key to the acceptance and credibility of research findings. Like many other research organizations, the FWF applies high ethical standards to the research projects it funds. The FWF investigates suspected cases of academic misconduct using its own procedure and in close cooperation with the Austrian Agency for Scientific Integrity (OeAWI). The results of these investigations are published annually.

Trust in the credibility of science and research is essential. Research integrity and ethics are key elements of the research process and determine the quality of excellent research according to the highest international standards.

The FWF provides researchers with information and guidelines on research integrity:

  • Guidelines for the standards of good scientific practice and the principles of research ethics
  • Guidelines for good research practice when applying to the FWF
  • Statistics on suspected violations of the guidelines of good research practice
  • Commitment to the responsible use of animal testing
  • Guidelines for safety and diversity in research
  • Whistleblower system for suspected violations
