At the initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, Austria is investing €107 million in funding from the NextGenerationEU Development and Resilience Plan to accelerate the development of quantum research and technologies. The aim is to enhance Austria's competitiveness and increase European cooperation in this strategic key technology sector. Funding is available for both basic research as well as the development of practical applications.

Header Quantum Austria

Interested researchers, universities, non-university research institutions, and companies from the quantum research and technologies sector can choose from existing programs in the FFG and FWF portfolios. The cooperation between FFG and FWF allows the program to cover a wide spectrum of funding needs, ranging from funding for researchers at universities to R&D activities by start-ups, companies, and the private sector.

To date, a total of 31 research projects have been funded by the FWF with a total amount of funding requested of €23,1 million:

  • Principal Investigator Projects: 19*
  • ESPRIT: 7
  • Erwin Schrödinger: 2
  • 1000 Ideas: 2
  • Clusters of Excellence: 1**

* One Principal Investigator Project was transferred to the German Research Foundation (DFG) in accordance with the Money follows Researcher rule.
