While hunger and unhealthy eating habits are on the rise, climate change is disrupting food production and distribution. In addition, unsustainable food systems are currently exacerbating climate change. The co-financed European Partnership FutureFoodS now combines national and European F&I efforts, working together to develop solutions to the complex challenges facing our food systems, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security.

Improving European food systems

The new collaboration is intended to inspire Europe-wide innovation and transnational knowledge sharing to achieve a resilient and sustainable future for European food systems. The aim is to minimize the ecological footprint of food production, improve consumers’ health, and ensure the economic viability of a sustainable food supply.

Researchers can apply now

The European Commission is co-financing the FutureFoodS partnership as part of the Horizon Europe funding program. The call for proposals issued by the FWF is aimed at researchers working in the field of sustainable food systems who are interested in starting a new cross-border cooperation. The first FutureFoodS call opens on November 6, 2024 and closes on January 15, 2025.
