FWF Webinar: Focus on ASTRA Awards (for Research Service Staff)

Starting in summer 2024, the FWF ASTRA Awards will be offering successful, internationally visible researchers who have already achieved a certain degree of academic independence an improved opportunity to advance their academic careers. ASTRA is intended to provide the best possible support to researchers in the consolidation of their academic careers as an independent researcher. ASTRA funding will help researchers achieve the qualifications needed for academic leadership positions and make the leap to the top of their research field, and will further promote equal opportunities and diversity. ASTRA replaces both the previous Elise Richter and Elise Richter PEEK programs for women and the START Awards, and picks up where the ESPRIT program for early-stage researchers, successfully launched in 2021, leaves off.

The objectives of ASTRA are

• Funding excellent, innovative research, including through the development or establishment of new research fields and/or approaches
• Attracting and retaining internationally visible researchers to help increase the international attractiveness of Austrian research institutions
• Supporting outstanding women researchers
• Career development: Supporting the consolidation of independent researchers’ academic careers and the achievement of the qualifications needed for academic leadership positions, especially senior faculty positions, based on a well-funded research project
• Establishing long-term career prospects through the integration of researchers and their research fields, creating sustainable added value for both researchers and research institutions

This virtual information event will focus on program specifics and application guidelines and address specific aspects of the application process. After the presentation, you will have the opportunity to clarify any open questions.

This event is open for the staff of research service units at Austrian research institutions only. Another event for applicants will be held on May 29, 2024.
