Established in 2013, the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences (KL) is part of an academic and research community located at the Campus Krems, and includes a network of comprising teaching hospitals in St. Pölten, Krems and Tulln. The university offers degree programmes in Human Medicine, Psychotherapy, Counselling Sciences and Psychology, which are tailored to the requirements of the Bologna model, opening the door to new, cutting-edge health professions. Starting April 2019, the KL offers a research position in the subject area "Physiology” (Head: Univ. Prof. Dr. Gerald Obermair:

Research assistant (Post Doc, 40 hrs), permanent position


Your tasks:

  • Development and application neuronal in vitro cell culture models
  • Analyses of neuronal and synaptic functions employing molecular biology, immunocytochemistry and electrophysiology in order to study normal and pathophysiologic developments (e.g. autism, schizophrenia) of nerve cells
  • Development and application of methods for the high- and super-resolution analysis of nerve cells and their synaptic connections
  • Supervision of students and participation in teaching
  • Collaboration in research projects and support in logistical activities
  • Recruitment and implementation of own third-party-funded research projects
  • Participation in the coordination and management of the research team


Your profile:

  • Diploma or master's degree in the life sciences
  • PhD in life sciences (neuroscience, cell biology, etc.)
  • Prerequisite: Expertise in neuronal cell culture models, fluorescence microscopy and electrophysiology (preferably scientific publications or doctoral thesis)
  • Desired: Background in molecular biology, cell biology, electrophysiology applications, immunohistochemical techniques, basics in bioinformatics and statistics
  • Interest in scientific work and scientific publications
  • Willingness to participate in teaching and mentoring students
  • Reliable and independent working attitude
  • Friendly, open appearance and team spirit
